UGH! I have been knitting but slacking on my blogging. Time to get back on track. I will be sorting things out and will post an entry that brings my journal current.Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-14463388183147954162008-11-26T11:17:00.005-05:002008-11-26T11:33:10.192-05:00Yet another scarf! Twinkle's Feather ScarfI am really into chunky scarves this year. Twinkle's Feather Scarf from Twinkle's Big City Knits is a scarf that transcends all seasons. I used some luxurious Noro Lily Solid as a substitue for Twinkle Handknits Cruise. I think it is a great choice and it is disappointing that Noro Lily Solid is now discontinued. It is one of those yarns that has a funny weight. It is listed as Twinkle's Cruise but it is a lighter weight yarn.

Holding 4 strands of Noro Lily together results a fantastic drapey scarf.

More photos are on Ravelry:

http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cherie8knits/feather-scarfCherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-91297716949622366642008-11-23T23:01:00.010-05:002008-11-26T11:16:56.030-05:00Twinkle's Evening ShellI am experimenting with Twinkle by Wenlan Chia chunky knits. This is Twinkle's Urchin Beret done in Twinkle's Soft Chunky. The color is 27-Urchin, which is grey with a blue cast. It is an unusual, but sophisticated, neutral option that will go with everything. I really love this hat more than I anticipated. The pattern is very simple and the results are perfect. I will make this hat again.

Pattern Notes:

Needles: DPN US 17 and US 19

Cast on with Size 19

4 rows of ribbing completed on Size 17

Remainder of hat completed on Size 19

Pay close attention to gauge. I love the instant gratification that super bulky yarn offers. Soft Chunky is a beautiful yarn that I cannot get enough of. Its hard to find, but it is well worth it and it is a great addition to the stash.

I am just getting my feet wet. I have tee'd up several Twinkle projects. I just received my Twinkle's Town & Country Knits. I got it for a great price on EBay. I would like to tackle one of the sweater patterns next. Picking a color is not easy. So cute!!! I have not worn mittens since I was in High School. They appear to be HOT for this winter. I believe I will make another pair in another color for me or for a lucky recipient at Xmas. This pattern is featured in Vogue Knitting - Fall 2008. Manos del Uruguay is the yarn that I used. The thick and thin quality of the yarn is great for a cable project. I love the subtle color varigation. Overall this is a great, ‘quick and easy’ project. It has just enough spice and fussiness to keep my interest. I have to travel this weekend and this would be a great portable project

My detailed notes are posted on Ravelry:http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cherie8knits/02-yellow-harvest-mittens

Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-67708854159323364872008-08-18T01:39:00.022-04:002008-09-02T23:50:02.152-04:00Indigo Ripples! This is one of those projects that I just knew would be a hit. This is my first lace scarf project and the results are beautiful. It took me a few attempts to get the hang of the pattern but when I had it memorized it was a fast knit. The only modification that I made was to knit 2 garter stitch rows before beginning the 24 row lace pattern. I continued per the instructions to knit and try on until it was my desired length.

Classic Elite Alpaca Sox yarn is wonderfully soft and airy. The alpaca provides a beautiful fuzzy texture. I do recommend bamboo straights with this yarn. Although it feels silky on my fingers it easily splits and it needs something grip on to. It was too slippery on my addi turbos.

I used about 1 1/2 skeins of the alpaca sox to yield a scarf about 100 inches long. The added length provides the extra drama and versatility that I need in a scarf. It is a scarf I can wear season to season. The color, Sky, is a subtle blue-grey, that is great with my denim jacket, as well as, with my winter dress coat.

To my surprise, I think I am hooked on lace knitting because I am already planning my next lace venture...It is probably going to be the Swallowtail lace shawl pattern in Interweave Knits Fall 2006. My Misti Alpaca Lace Yarn in Pink is on order.Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-62822523459293163072008-04-01T22:31:00.005-04:002008-04-01T23:07:26.874-04:00Monkey Socks!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9Qo32i3_-Js3SL3voab8U42hAisiTZ6IMU_0HphLJNH89Or2mUgEP2hSc_zHdv-r14sTVyTOXvqwC7T91Qg1DZuqyTYLAcr_rcCkPpTM1eY9EePJSnvTxRTE2a8aSzpdaykx1bHWGNGaG/s320/IM001084.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5184479240242571282" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfpmJiATe3Rpr4UQABFfz7KHuit0Y6VrYMzAcH-tAr1DEYgJe-JbKL01u0EKJMLpUqfjOXxK_tjhwvzHGhAWleyyEe7SXB5STxCnGg3QQ_aq6OGAvnkvgbrUPYVCiV8cKB-ujVFvDjN7HX/s320/IM001076.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5184478595997476866" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1fFoCNeUsUYJVJlEah29EJZoEwqB_HGV7Ul1aCTD6kH0FWSbRVu4G0WZWYLcAZNHgEsAE4rjvHOVKNZ2HlgxkccrdXwtXuSq3tUlMOzFEzpJ2J3ZE_mLoWXLY-1eXrOKDH9NBqa_rsSnu/s320/IM001083.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5184477711234213874" />
Socks are a great take along project and they are also a great project to pass the time when you not feeling your best. I started these socks the night before I embarked on my journey back home from a short visit with Dad. My departure from Fort Myers was smooth and on time but all chaos occurred in Atlanta. My Delta flight was grounded because the plane did not pass inspection.

I was glad that I decided to include this project in my carry on. In between several gate changes I was able to make good progress on my Monkey Socks by Cookie A. My time was not a complete loss because I had completed 50% of the first sock before I boarded the plane at 11pm for my final leg home. I did not arrive at home until 1:30 am.

A few days later I came down with the flu. Surprisingly, this set back did not halt progress on my Monkey Socks. In between my hot and cold spells I cast on and completed the second sock.

Koigu KPPPM is a great sock yarn. I am not an avid sock knitter so my experience with sock yarns is limited, but I consider it a favorite. The colorway for these socks had to grow on me but I am pleased with the results. I love this pattern. It is very simple to memorize. My 1.5 DPN 's resulted a perfect fit for my size 8's. You are going to be looking sweet and cuddly in your new hoodie sweater, hat and lovely booties. Your mom requested that it be made in a variegated yarn which includes deep and vibrant colors. No pastel blue for you!

I used Cascade Sierra Quarto which includes a mix of royal blue, blue, purple and light blue or white. I can't wait to see it on. The pattern Daisy (size 3-6 months) designed by Stephanie Japel is found on knitty.com. The matching hat and booties were derived from a Crystal Palace Pattern. Maybe a coordinating blanket is in the future.

The sweater design was a very simple. The instructions are well written and easy to follow. The body is worked as one piece. The only adjustment I made was the number of stitches on the hood edging and front button-band. Instead of 3 garter stitches, I completed 2 garters.

I knitted the entire sweater in a weekend. Finishing was a breeze. Seaming is minimal: Raglan shoulders and sleeves. It took me a moment to decide if to seam the shoulders before seaming the sleeves. Great decision! The arms worked perfectly. I was able to practice my grafting on the hoodie. My results were ok, but I know I will improve with practice.

After wet blocking, I added 3 mother of pearl buttons. Perfect...! I am very please with the results and hope Michael's Mom is happy with the yarn selection and finished results. Since Michael arrived earlier than planned, it will be months before I see him in his new hoodie. I am going to find him a pair of jeans and a cute onesie to finish the outfit.Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-4285662247201140232007-12-16T01:39:00.000-05:002007-12-16T01:48:52.665-05:00Composed Mitts...Looking Good! My Composed Mitts from Interweave Fall '07 are done just in time for our first snowfall. They are blocking and will be ready for wear in the morning. I am very pleased with the results...These mitts are absolutely gorgeous!

This was a great knit to practice fair isle or color standing knitting. I am a bit rusty in this area but the pattern directions/charting were easy to follow and needed no major adjustments. I would recommend this pattern to an advance beginner who wants to learn fair isle or knit something fun with more than one color.

I used Berrocco Ultra Light instead of the Blue Sky Alpaca that is used in the original. Berrocco Ultra Light's color selection is awesome for those who love rich vibrant colors. The five colors that I used are not an exact match to the original pattern but they are close and I was able to result the same visual impact. I have a lot of yarn left over but I am considering knitting these mitts again in another color palette.

With size 4 6"Chia Goo bamboo double point needles I was able to get gauge. I ordered these needles to try them out. My experience is that they appear to get better with use. On these needles, Berrocco Ultra Light knits up soft and airy. The wool definitely adds strength and provide the memory effect to the yarn. I was concerned that my mitts would grow with wear if I used 100% Alpaca.Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-13806807081800868532007-11-03T14:29:00.000-04:002007-11-03T19:10:36.709-04:00Let's get organized!!! Now they have a lovely home. Those handy Lancome cosmetic cases will now be used for something else. Instructions for this Marimekko-inspired Felted Needle Case is included in Hip Graphic Knits by Rochelle Bourgault and Lisa B. Evans. This is a nice little book if you are looking of simple color work patterns. I purchased it because it has some basic, youthful designs that are helpful for developing my intarsia and fair isles skills.

Using bobbins and carrying your work is a learned skill and time to execute these techniques must be factored in. It took me about a week to complete. Since this was my first felted knit project I opted to used reasonably price Lion Brand Wool in Rose and Pumpkin that I purchase from Michaels. This yarn is perfect for felting. It works up well and felts smoothly. I only had to run it through one 15 minute cycle. When the felting process was complete, I measured my piece and left it to dry overnight.

Overall I am please with the results. Deciding on the number of compartments was probably the most difficult task. Once I decided on the interior configuration, stitching the needle pockets was a breeze. This is also my first project on my new sewing machine. I have been without an operating sewing machine for several years and was concerned that I could still sew a straight seam. No problem! I am back in there...!

My case is finished with a sheer coordinating ribbon that I found at Hancock Fabrics. I am not sure how long the ribbon will hold up. Its okay for now but I anticipate that I will have to create an I-cord with the leftover yarn.Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-31206974059218901352007-10-21T17:54:00.000-04:002007-10-22T08:11:48.957-04:00Embellished Stitch Markers...

One of my upcoming projects will include knitted panels where several stitch markers will be necessary. I have seen bead embellished stitch makers shown in the top knitting magazines and it occurred to me that these stitch markers would be easy to make. Just like my knitting stash, my beading stash is overflowing. I am always looking for a good beading project to make use of some of my beading "odds and ends". This afternoon I whipped up a set of 14 stitch markers with lampwork and silver(925) silver bead charms.

That new digital camera is still on my list...! Most of the knitting projects I select require a needle smaller than 10 1/2, therefore I will get a lot of use out these. I will probably make a set that can be used on needles as large as 15 to 17 (US). I have to find larger rings. This should not be a problem.
Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-35316635927066164452007-10-20T14:57:00.000-04:002007-10-21T20:08:44.818-04:00Scarf to go with that beret!
I had some chunky alpaca in the my stash and I whipped up a beautiful, soft cable scarf. I am a scarf person and I like to wear a different one as often as I can. Also, I like them long so that I can wrap them around a couple of times. This one is a dusty rose pink and it is about 7' long with the fringe. These pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this piece. I love pink as an accent. It adds a feminine touch to anything you wear. It is, in my opinion, a versatile, feel good color that compliments most skin tones.

This was a quick knit on size 10 needles. Alpaca is a great yarn to work with. It is very soft, warm and durable. This is my first project using 100 per cent alpaca and I am now convinced it will not be my last. I have ordered more yarn with Xmas in mind. Now...if the weather will make up its mind...cold? hot?...cool? I am kinda looking forward to wearing my beret and hat combo with jeans or one of my nice wool top coats.Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-11083399642707386092007-10-15T00:14:00.000-04:002007-10-21T11:02:15.460-04:00Mon Cherie Beret!Finished in a weekend!...Kat Coles Beret from "Greetings from Knit Cafe." When I saw Julia's 2006 post (mindofwinter.prettyposies.com) beret finished in Valeria di Roma Angora...I had to make one in angora.

I found 4 skeins of the yarn in the same crayon color. It is pricey at $13+. Per Julia's recommendation I increased the brim just a tad bit: On size 3 needles, I included 2 additional increase rows in the pattern before I started the decreases to achieve the right amount of drape. The 4th ball of yarn is required if the this adjustment is included. To finish, I misted my beret with a water bottle and left it to dry mounted on a paper plate.

This is a great project for a beginner. Now I am searching for a vintage jeweled button for a closure. This project is wonderful...! It is great for the intermediate or advanced beginner who is looking for a challenge or test of your knitting skills. I used the recommended yarn Cascade Sierra in aubergine. This yarn is great to work with. There are a lot of pieces to knit and assemble. The pattern instructions are clear and on point. Everything came together nicely. The fit is perfect. I made no adjustments to the pattern. To my misfortune, no one home at this time to take my picture as I model my new finished object so I took a few pictures of it hanging as a place holder for my post.
There is no doubt that I will wear this jacket for years to come. I have a couple of pairs of pajama pants a pair of slippers that coordinate wonderfully. After a long day at work I will toss this on with my PJ's and get cozy with a cup of hot chocolate. I will also wear this jacket this fall with feminine skirts and jeans and lacy cami. There are so many options. I would like to thank Robin for putting this KAL together. I have enjoyed working all of my projects from Knitting Lingerie Style and will knit a few more before I put this book on the shelf for safekeeping. Joan has a fan for life! The trumpet skirt is my next project.

Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-77495599958324743202007-09-01T21:18:00.001-04:002007-09-01T21:20:40.670-04:00Pretty Purple Socks!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF4PJpatXKumbpPmOarJvXhyphenhyphenxxfotfui8Lys5FVptCaKMtSOLCXxlZ67FlJfeXUHE-arYTsFnnVBDkBCU88afYEQjI_9SrCvJHi2dwrbPK7_FOKUQ0K_NKeii2P2A9pXYuxz6qY_BhGU5x/s320/IM000977.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105410400586946866" />
I finished these Lacy Summer Socks, from Knitting Lingerie Style, about a month ago, but did not have an opportunity to create a post. My pictures are a bit light. The color is actually a beautiful Plum color. I used the K1C2 Ambrosia yarn as suggested in the pattern. This is an absolutely wonderful yarn to work with. The end product is very soft and stretchy. I know I will be reaching for these socks frequently, especially when the weather turns cooler. I am not an avid sock knitter, but this pattern has to be one of the best sock pattern's that I have ever knitted. It is very well written and has increased my interest in socks knitted toe up. I highly recommended this pattern for those who are new to sock knitting and would like something more interesting than an simple stockinette stitch. I will certainly knit these a few more times...On to my next project! I think I will change the sleeves next time I make it.Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-57800126785236690552007-08-05T01:20:00.000-04:002007-08-05T01:28:49.208-04:00Shaped Lace Tee Finished...Last night I finished the Shaped Lace Tee from Knitting Lingerie Style. I love and know that I will wear it often. I chose an earthy green color for fall and plan to make another one in Ivory. Cascade Sierra is a great yarn to work with. I will also make use of it in a wrap that I would like to create. This tee was truly a project that I could have completed in a week, but as usual, I experienced several interruptions that diverted my attention or left me too exhausted to keep the momentum. However, I was anxious to finish this top this weekend so that I could move on to my next project. I think I want to tackle the trumpet skirt next. Its late ... I will post a picture before the end of day tomorrow.Cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525676965129472833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889448404850591438.post-34638644087693353592007-07-02T01:44:00.000-04:002007-07-02T03:45:12.004-04:00Ready to Get Started!I am up late tonight setting up a new blog, reading the instructions for the Knitting Lingerie Style - Shaped Lace Tee and preparing for my gauge swatch. For this project, I will be using the recommended yarn, Cascade Sierra, in moss green...I am a bit partial to green!

I am at home on vacation this week and hope to make good progress so that I can prepare for my next project. I would also like to tackle the bra and panty. I anticipate that this will also be a fun project.
